Amoxicillin
(Amoxil)
Amoxicillin is a broad spectrum antibiotic drug in the same group as Penicillin. Amoxicillin is used to treat a bacterial infection caused by Streptococci, E. Coli, Staphylococcus, H. Pyroli, N. Gonorrhoeae, S. Gonorrhea, H. Influenzae.
Do not use Amoxicillin to treat a viral infection, patients with mononucleosis. Amoxicillin can make birth control pills less effective. Do not take Amoxicillin if you are allergic to penicillin, cephalosporins, e.g., Omnicef, Cefzil, Ceftin, Keflex, and others. Alternatively, if you have any of these conditions:
Active ingredient: each Amoxil capsule contains 250 mg or 500 mg of Amoxicillin.
Inactive ingredients: gelatin, magnesium stearate, titanium dioxide and dyes.
Tablets:
Active ingredient: each Amoxil tablet contains 500 mg or 875 mg of Amoxicillin.
Inactive ingredients: Colloidal silicon dioxide, crospovidone, hypromellose, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, polyethylene glycol, sodium starch glycolate, titanium dioxide.

How to take Amoxicillin:
- Amoxicillin can be taken with or without food
- Liquid Amoxicillin need to be shaken well before measuring with a
dose-measuring spoon. The liquid can be mixed with water, milk, fruit
juices, or other juices. Once mix, drink all the mixture immediately.
Do not save any mixture for later use
- Take Amoxicillin for the full length of prescription time even if the symptoms seems to disappear
- Do not share the medication with anyone that has the same symptoms
- Store the medicine at room temperature, away from light, heat, and moisture.
- Stomach pain, nausea, vomiting
- Clostridium difficile associated diarrhea (CDAD)
- Fatal hypersensitivity (anaphylactic reaction)
- Rash or itching
- Vaginal itching or discharge
- Black hairy tongue
- White patches or sores appear inside your mouth or on your lips
- Easy bruising, unusual bleeding from nose, mouth, vagina, or rectum and purple or red pinpoint spots under the skin
- Fever, swollen glands
- Joint pain, or general ill feeling
- Severe blistering, peeling
- Jaundice
- Dark colored urine
- Fever
- Confusion
- Severe tingling, numbness, pain
- Muscle weakness
- Bruising, unusual bleeding (nose, mouth, vagina, or rectum), purple or red pinpoint spots under your skin
- Stevens-Johnson syndrome (a serious systemic allergic reaction to stimuli)
- Pustulosis (inflammatory skin condition that results in a large fluid filled, blister-liked)

Probenecid (Benemid)- decrease renal secretion of Amoxicillin
- Anticoagulants, e.g., warfarin (Coumadin) - abnormal blood clotting process
- Allopurinol - increase rash incidence
- Oral contraceptives - Amoxil reduces efficacy of some contraceptives

Antibacterials such as Chloramphenicol, sulfonamides, tetracycline and macrolides may interfere with Amoxicillin action
- Amoxicillin 125 mg/5 ml oral suspension, dispense 140 cc, take 1 tsp every 6 hours until finishing the dosage.
- For mild or moderate infection: take Amoxicillin 250mg, 1 tab every 8 hours for 7 days
- For severe infection: take Amoxicillin 500mg, 1 tab every 8 hours for 7 days
- As an antibiotic prophylaxis for adult: take Amoxicillin 500mg orally, 4 tabs one hour prior to dental procedure
- As an antibiotic prophylaxis for pediatric patients: take Amoxicillin 50 mg/kg orally as a single dose1 hour prior to dental procedure
